Park Alerts shows what is closed, what has an alert and when things are open at all 474 sites in the U.S. National Park Service's public data. It is for anyone planning a visit who wants to check a park before they drive.
Park Alerts is not an official National Park Service site. Always confirm with the park before you travel.

Where the information comes from
| Information | Source | How often it updates |
|---|---|---|
| Alerts and closures | National Park Service API | Every hour |
| Park details, entrance fees, visitor center hours, campgrounds | National Park Service API | Once a day |
| Events | National Park Service API, events for the next three days | Once a day |
| Photos | The first photo the park service publishes for each park, shown with its credit | Once a day |
| Campground reservations | Links to Recreation.gov or the park's own page, as listed by the park service | Once a day |
| Local notices | This site's editors | As soon as an editor publishes one |
The park service's free public data allows a limited number of requests a day, so the imports are spread out. The status board shows when alerts were last checked. When the park service removes an alert, it disappears here at the next hourly check.
How local notices work
Editors can add a local notice to a park, such as a road closure or a change of hours. A notice starts as a draft. An editor publishes it, or sets a date and time and the site publishes it then, with no one logged in. Notices appear on the status board and the park page, marked "Local notice". Park editors can post only for the parks assigned to them.
Accessibility
The site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Pages are checked with automated tools at phone, tablet and desktop widths, and by keyboard. Read the accessibility statement for what was tested and the known limits.
Who runs it
Built and run by Consul, Inc. on Drupal 11, hosted on Google Cloud. How this site is maintained lists the software versions running now and how updates and backups work.
