Park Alerts aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This statement was last reviewed on October 21, 2026.
How we check
- Automated checks with axe-core 4.14 on the home page, a park page, the status board, search results, the map and the Spanish home page, at screen widths of 1440, 390 and 320 pixels. The latest run found no violations.
- Keyboard checks: every link, filter, form and menu can be reached and used with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "Skip to main content" link.
- Alert types are shown with a word and a shape, never color alone.
- The map has a full list of parks by state, with the same status information, for keyboard and screen reader users.
We have not yet tested with people who use assistive technology, and automated tools catch only some problems.
Known limits
- Park, alert and event text comes from the National Park Service in English only. On Spanish pages it is marked as English so screen readers read it correctly.
- Some photo descriptions come from the park service and may be brief.
- Links to nps.gov and Recreation.gov go to sites we do not control.
