    As the busy season ramps up, traffic will be denser and can result in delays and complications particularly for owners of longer vehicles. The Tucson Mountain District (west side) of the park can accommodate vehicles up to 40ft in total length on the loop drive and has RV parking available at the Visitor Center, and the Rincon Mountain District (east side) can accommodate vehicles up to 40ft in length on the loop drive but has no RV parking available at the Visitor Center.

    Rideshare services will drop visitors off at the park, but usually will not pick them back up. To avoid being stranded in the park, coordinate two-way trips before using rideshares to visit the West side. No major trails start at the visitor center.

    Weekday Closures of Cornish-Windsor Bridge

    Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park · New Hampshire

    The Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge is closed weekdays, 7am to 4pm, starting October 19 for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation to replace deck planks. Closures are expected through the end of November. Plan for extra travel time and use an alternate route such as U.S. Route 5 South from Windsor, Vermont to VT Route 131 East and NH 12A North.

    The Mountainair Headquarters, Abó, Quarai and Gran Quivira Visitor Centers will open at 11AM on Thursday, 10/22 due to an All-Employee Meeting.     Replace Bocce Ball Court Retaining Wall

    San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park · California

    Project work begins on Monday, February 9 to replace the bocce ball 50-foot retaining wall in order to improve existing infrastructure and enhance visitor safety. Several parking spots on lower Van Ness will be fenced off and the bocce ball court will not be accessible for the duration of the project, slated through August 2026. Please be aware of machinery, work, and signs.

    Due to removal of hazard trees along Generals Highway between Highway 180 and Giant Forest, there are traffic delays on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vehicles may experience delays of up to 30 minutes total. There will not be delays on federal holidays.

    Infrastructure Improvements to Old Rag Trailhead

    Shenandoah National Park · Virginia

    Effective May 4, Shenandoah National Park will begin infrastructure enhancements at the Old Rag Trailhead main parking lot. We expect to complete work by November 2026. Until then, the main parking lot is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Visitors can access Old Rag Trailhead via existing overflow parking lots. Day-use tickets are still required from March 1 through November 30 in addition to a park entrance fee.

    Fall Hunting Seasons

    Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore · Michigan

    Michigan has many designated hunting seasons for different animals. Several of these hunting seasons overlap and begin mid-September. Hunting is permitted within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in accordance with Michigan state laws and regulations. Hunting is not permitted within 450 feet of popular sites within the park, which are listed in the Superintendent's Compendium. Wearing brightly colored clothing is recommended for visitors.

    Accessible parking is available at the George Washington Carver Museum and The Oaks. For George Washington Carver Museum, after receiving your visitor pass, enter Tuskegee University through Lincoln Gates on Booker T. Washington Boulevard. Pass Margaret Murray Washington Hall and the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, then turn right to the parking garage. Accessible parking for The Oaks is at 1200 West Montgomery Road.     All visitors to Tuskegee University, including those visiting the George Washington Carver Museum located on campus, are required to obtain a visitor pass before entering. This policy is part of the university's safety and security procedures. Visitor passes are issued by Tuskegee University Public Safety.     Valles Caldera's backcountry road system opens to vehicles on Friday, May 15, 2026. Forty vehicles passes will be issued per day through November 15, when the route closes for the 2026 season. Passes may be reserved up to 3 months in advance at Recreation.gov. Any remaining daily passes will be available on a first come, first served basis in the Volcano Discovery Center.
