    Pennsylvania Memorial Observation Deck Closed

    Gettysburg National Military Park · Pennsylvania

    A renovation project for the nearby Comfort Station requires electrical service to be shut off. This shut off affects lighting in the spiral staircase leading up to the Pennsylvania Memorial observation deck. The staircase is now too dark to maintain visitors’ safety. The observation deck will remain closed until the Comfort Station project is complete in early-to-mid November. Note: The base of the Pennsylvania Memorial remains open to visitation during this time.

    Going-to-the-Sun Road Seasonal Closure

    Glacier National Park · Montana

    Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed for the season at Avalanche Creek on the west side of the park. On the east side, the closure is located at Jackson Glacier Overlook. Travel on open sections of the road may change at any time due to winter weather conditions. Visitors should check road conditions before their arrival and be prepared for winter weather.

    China Beach Construction & Seacliff Avenue Closures Fall - Winter 2026

    Park's China Beach renovation of bathhouse, lower terrace, and picnic areas is in progress. See 'more' for link to Phase 3 of China Beach project below. SFPUC waterline replacement project will cause parking restrictions, lane closures, and access controls along Sea Cliff Avenue. Visitors should expect SFPUC project on Sea Cliff Avenue to impact access to China Beach.     Battery 234 Loop Road Closure

    The Battery 234 Loop Road and Battery Cooper within the GUIS, Fort Pickens Management Area will be closed to all for vehicle, bicyclists, and foot (pedestrian) traffic until further notice for safety purposes until the park can correct the leaning and structurally unstable historic Tower 234 that poses danger to visitors and staff. The beach access points for pedestrians from the Gulf (south) side will also be closed. The pipe gates at the entrance and exit points will be locked with accompanied signage.

    Bridge to Maryland Heights & C&O Canal CLOSED

    Harpers Ferry National Historical Park · West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland

    Due to safety concerns, the Goodloe Byron Memorial Footbridge to the C&O Canal NHP towpath is expected to remain closed this fall for safety repairs on the pedestrian bridge. This work is in addition to the staircase replacement. A shuttle with very limited space currently runs between Harpers Ferry NHP Visitor Center and C&O Canal Lock 34. This will impact access to Maryland Heights, the Appalachian NST, and the Potomac Heritage NST. We strongly advise considering other trails when possible.

    Mauna Loa Road Closed Past First Cattle Guard for Tree Removal

    Mauna Loa Road will be closed to all use from the first cattle guard to Mauna Loa Lookout for tree removal through October 29, 2026. The tree work will prepare the area for the Mauna Loa Road Rehabilitation Project. Vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians will not be allowed during the closure.

    Home of FDR - Partial Closure of Rose Garden

    Home Of Franklin D Roosevelt National Historic Site · New York

    The planting beds, lawns, and paths of the Rose Garden will be under construction from late March 2026 lasting through fall of 2026. This rehabilitation will restore the crisp, level character of the garden, improve access and infrastructure, and re-install historic rose and peony varieties. During this period, the Burial Site viewing area should remain available, but occasional disruptions may restrict public access. The graves, marble monument, pet graves, and sundial will not be impacted by this project.

    Due to increased human-wildlife interactions and food storage concerns, individual tent sites and group sites at Three Mile, Daisy Farm, Moskey Basin, and Caribou Island Campgrounds are currently closed. Tent and hammock camping are not permitted anywhere within the campground. Off-trail camping zones 10, 11, 12, 13, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 are closed. Shelters remain open. Closed areas will be patrolled to ensure compliance.

    Fort Spokane Campground has re-opened to the public with minimal closures as of 8/14/2026. Sites 39, 40, 41, 50, and walk-in sites 64-68 will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to fire damage and hazard trees. Caution tape and closure signs have been posted for visitor safety. Please remain in open areas of the campground only. The Fort Spokane day use area and boat launch remain open. Please continue to use caution throughout these areas.
